Ethiopiques

It was a warm Sunday afternoon when Andy and I stumbled into Poo Bah Records in Pasadena. I have to admit, I was overwhelmed by the plethora of good music just waiting to be sorted through. We skimmed the new music section before we heard softly, over the store speakers, these enticing melodies. Excited, we asked KUTMAH what it was to which he replied “Ethiopiques, No. 4, the blue one.” The rest is history. Ethiopiques has been on loop for the past few days. Ethiopiques is a series of compilations featuring Ethiopian and Eritrean singers and musicians. These recordings were done between the 60s-70s and are pretty rare finds. If you’re into jazz, I highly recommend a listen. Your ears deserve this treat. Two sample songs after the jump.

Mousetrails

I recently stumbled upon a java applet (Mac | PC) created by Anatoly Zenkov that records a computer mouse’s movements (or lack thereof) during use. Idle moments are represented by dots that increase in size the longer the cursor remains static. The result is an abstract flurry of lines and circles unique to each users’ computer habits.

Digital Palm Reading Anyone? Also yes, that is a little shameless self plug promo in the screenshot.
