Sound, Vibrations, Physical Reality

Marco Fusinato breaks it down for us with detailed depictions of vibrations and sound. He’s taken the idea of scores and has illustrated them in a way as to really show the sound. These intricate, meticulous ink drawings of his really caught my eye. There’s something really beautiful about the simplicity of black on off white, thick and thin lines running concurrently, and tons of diagonal lines. Not gonna lie, I jizzed. More after the jump.

Let’s Do Something Real

When I saw the video for Delphic’s “This Momentary”, I instantly fell in love. The video, directed by David Ma, was shot in Chernobyl, Ukraine and really gives you a peek into the lives of the people there, twenty three years after the nuclear disaster. While the video is very simple, the cinematography is lush. The color palette, although colors are toned back, seem almost hopeful to me. Maybe it’s the lyrics from the Delphic song playing over it that makes it seem that way. Video after the jump. Delphic are a band from Manchester I’ve been following for a short moment.Their debut album, Acolyte, can be purchased through iTunes and vinyl through Rough Trade or HMV.

Collection a Day

Stumbled upon this lovely project today and fell in love. Lisa Congdon, a illustrator from the Mission District of San Francisco, has been and will be posting a collection each day of 2010. This is taking the idea of “a photo a day” to another level. Her daily photos are vibrant and show the wear and tear of each object. It got me thinking about objects in general and the story each one tells. It also made me miss my Cray-pas and assorted Sanrio erasers of yesteryear…sigh. I look forward to seeing more photos from A Collection a Day.

Tim Burton Retrospective

burton_1a

Recently released images from Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice in Wonderland adaptation reminded moviegoers that the quirky London-based director possesses one of the most extravagant visual vocabularies of any filmmaker now working.

Underscoring that fact, New York’s Museum of Modern Art kicks off a Tim Burton retrospective Nov. 22 with a collection of 700 art pieces produced by the goth maestro over the past three decades.

Josh Azzarella: Thrilless “Thriller”

Thriller
I’m sure everyone has grown up watching Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video on VH1 or MTV right? It’s a classic. I’m also sure that most everyone also danced to it? Watching Michael and his fellow monster-zombie friends get on with the “funk of forty years.” Josh Azzarella has put an entirely new spin on the video! Sort of. He’s actually edited it to be without sound or humans. Azzarella is best known for his controversial photo manipulations. You can take a peak at his video here. It’s so bizarre to see an empty, eerie night without Michael or the zombies…I can’t watch Azzarella’s video without playing the song. No, it’s not just the cuts, it’s the entire video. I want to project this onto a screen and reenact the video. Who’s with me?

Joel Lozano

Joel Lozano
Joel Lozano makes me see potato stamps and rubber ducks in a completely different way. I never thought such ordinary objects could become so complicated. The thought made me smile as I recall making deformed stars out of various fruit and veggies as a child. (Oh, and I loved rubber duckies.) Lozano is also apart of a design studio in Barcelona called Studio Copywright. Studio Copywright specializes in design, illustration, typography and motion graphics. More work after the jump.
