The Blow Up

The Deadbeats are performing tomorrow night at Nextdoor for The Blow Up. The Deadbeats are going to perform some of their new cover songs from 1990’s sitcoms, which includes “Full House”, “Step By Step”, and maybe “Family Matters”. I hope that this isn’t some April fool’s joke, but even if it is, you should still check out the event to watch The Deadbeats perform live.

Beatroot Bodega @ Fresh Cafe

I found out about this event from Vezzen. His buddy, Kavet the Catalyst, is running this vinyl event. Here’s what he had to say about it:

Do you have RECORDS to sell? Do you own a independent and local company? BR-Bodega was created to offer Hawaii’s diggers, vinyl junkies, and collectors to get together. Also included will be local and independent companies that are looking to expand their base and or launch. Get at me if you want to be a vendor. Thanks to Tiff from Fresh Cafe for the support. Also looking for giveaway sponsors! Yes yall, fun.

Don’t sleep on this. Fresh Cafe, Saturday February 27th. Also, don’t miss the beat battle going on Thursday, January 21st.

Fresh Cafe

Fresh Cafe
Gary and I recently checked out Fresh Cafe for the Angry Woebots / Lightsleepers / Honozooloo / Ekundayo event. We found Fresh to be just what it says in it’s name. It was great to see a space with excellent lighting, big high ceilings and a very chill ambiance. Special thanks to our friends Sung Choe and Matt Higa for joining us and supplying me with a camera for the night. Photos after the jump.

HIFF

October means only one thing! Well, two. You get to dress up and act a fool on one day and for the rest of the month, watch movies! The Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) will be going on from October 15 to the 25th at various participating theaters. Of course, you probably knew this but the reason I’m posting is because there are some exciting design-related films this year. Art & Copy, Milton Glaser: To Inform and Delight and my most anticipated, Objectified. There are several dates for each of these films, so be sure to check HIFF’s online schedule for more information.

Just got back from the Blue Scholars appearance at Too Gruves Record Shop in Puck’s Alley. Including my friend and myself, there were about 10 people in total, so you could say that it was an intimate performance. If you don’t know who the Blue Scholars are you should definitely check them out. The group is based in Seattle, but they have strong ties to the islands. They just released their “Oof!” EP, which is dedicated to the people of Hawaii. You can purchase the EP at the concert, iTunes, or on thieir website. The Blue Scholars are also currently on a Hawaii tour, though they are set to perform in Honolulu this Friday at the Loft. If you missed the concert last Friday at the Loft you should definitely check it out. Tickets are now available at in4mation. More photos after the jump. (more…)
