Daedelus + Nosaj Thing (KEXP)

I don’t know why any of us haven’t posted these two glorious videos up. All three of us were linked by several of our friends to these lovely sets by our favorite LA producers, Daedelus and Nosaj Thing. (Thanks Trav15 & Mike Lau for bringing this to our attention.) The two have just finished, along with Jogger, The Magical Properties tour. If you’re a fan, you’re in for a treat. Videos after the jump.

CODEORGAN

This is what the et/al site would sound like if it sung in the shower. CodeOrgan creates unique musical compositions based on any sites’ particular code, customizing keys, baseline, and synth fx. What does yours sound like?

Ethiopiques

It was a warm Sunday afternoon when Andy and I stumbled into Poo Bah Records in Pasadena. I have to admit, I was overwhelmed by the plethora of good music just waiting to be sorted through. We skimmed the new music section before we heard softly, over the store speakers, these enticing melodies. Excited, we asked KUTMAH what it was to which he replied “Ethiopiques, No. 4, the blue one.” The rest is history. Ethiopiques has been on loop for the past few days. Ethiopiques is a series of compilations featuring Ethiopian and Eritrean singers and musicians. These recordings were done between the 60s-70s and are pretty rare finds. If you’re into jazz, I highly recommend a listen. Your ears deserve this treat. Two sample songs after the jump.

Mousetrails

I recently stumbled upon a java applet (Mac | PC) created by Anatoly Zenkov that records a computer mouse’s movements (or lack thereof) during use. Idle moments are represented by dots that increase in size the longer the cursor remains static. The result is an abstract flurry of lines and circles unique to each users’ computer habits.

Digital Palm Reading Anyone? Also yes, that is a little shameless self plug promo in the screenshot.

Skate & Destroy

Wood is good! From half-pipe to high concept, haroshi (Harvest) of Japan takes the greenwashing movement to a new level by using old and broken skateboard decks to create these sculptures. More images and haroshi’s artist statement after the jump.

Sound, Vibrations, Physical Reality

Marco Fusinato breaks it down for us with detailed depictions of vibrations and sound. He’s taken the idea of scores and has illustrated them in a way as to really show the sound. These intricate, meticulous ink drawings of his really caught my eye. There’s something really beautiful about the simplicity of black on off white, thick and thin lines running concurrently, and tons of diagonal lines. Not gonna lie, I jizzed. More after the jump.
